ITC Michigan and Wayland Main Street Announce Rain Garden Partnership

For Immediate Release

WAYLAND, MI, May 15, 2017

ITC Michigan and Wayland Main Street are announcing a new initiative to beautify and improve downtown Wayland with environmentally friendly green spaces.

Thanks to ITC’s generous sponsorship, Downtown Wayland will soon feature a scenic rain garden and pavilion. This project is just the latest in ITC’s long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement.

Rain gardens provide a practical and visually appealing solution to the problem of water pollution caused by unfiltered storm water runoff in urban settings. These gardens are designed to intercept and absorb unfiltered storm water that would otherwise flow into storm drains and contribute to water pollution and degradation.

The rain garden will feature a mix of pollinator-friendly native plants and will serve as a vibrant green space in Downtown Wayland.

Work is set to begin in late May and Wayland Main Street volunteers will get some extra help planting from local Boy Scout Troop 97.

The rain garden will be finished by early June, in time for Downtown Wayland’s annual Main Street Celebration in July. Construction of the pavilion is slated to take place in 2018.
